ITP 108 Recovery
The following year, ITP 108 complete with profiler was recovered in Amundsen Strait during JOIS 2018. The system was easy to find as the mooring anchor was grounded in ~400 m of water so was not drifting. The ship’s small boat was used attach the winch leader to the ITP surface package which was fed to the starboard A-frame and the complete system was hauled on board using the dual capstan winch for the BGOS moorings. A Yale grip was applied to wire, the potted section of the tether cut off and Crosby clamps applied to wire to create eye. The profiler was recovered sitting on the bottom bumper with the motor encased in mud, both springs broken and inductive modem coupling broken. In total, the operations took less than 2 hours.
