ITP 77 Recovery Operations

Due to a software error, ITP 77 profiler ceased communicating to the surface unit in August 2014 so when the unit drifted into the during the operations area of the JOIS 2014 cruise on the CCGS Louis S. St. Laurent, the opportunity was taken to recover it. Still frozen into the ice, the ship maneuvered to break up the ice securing the system and the released system was completely recovered using the ship’s forward A-frame.

More information and photos on the recovery operations are also available at: https://archives.whoi.edu/beaufortgyre/www.whoi.edu/page.do@pid=138496.html
