ITP 112 Recovery
Nearly two years after deployment, ITP 112 was completely recovered from the CCGS Louis S. St. Laurent during JOIS 2021. It was found in open water but wedged against an ice floe that seemed to be holding it in place. The LSSL approached the floe and kept the ITP on starboard. The system was recovered from the foredeck using the manbasket to hook the package and was hoisted on deck. The top float came back in two pieces and the bottom half was severely damaged. The surface package was wedged into the top half and the grounding plate was missing. The wire was spooled onto an empty reel on the Lebus winch using Yale grips to transfer the weight. The profiler’s springs were broken and the anchors were muddy.
